Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) are WAN's connected over an untrusted media such as the
Internet. VPNs are useful if your branch offices are separated by large distances and
direct connections are financially unrealistic.
The primary function of a VPN is to connect two individual networks together. The bonus
of doing it this way is that all offices will have a permanent direct connection to the
internet.
Whatever media is chosen as the transport, data between the sites is encrypted and
decrypted at the end-point routers. The level of encryption is determined by the
country where the VPN software is implemented.
ZDT offers VPN services based on the Cisco IOS, 3Com routers and Linux.
